Best BJJ Belt Brand: Eosin Panther BJJ Belt Review

By Tsavo NealBJJ GearLeave a Comment

Me in my grey gi wearing the Eosin Panther, my pick for the best BJJ belt.

What’s the best BJJ belt brand for grapplers who want the highest quality money can buy?

I’m a brown belt and assistant instructor who’s been training in various belts for 7 years. For my white and blue belts, I just used the generic Mikado belt we got for free at my gym. For my purple belt, I wanted something nicer, so I went with the Gold BJJ Heavyweight Belt.

But for my brown, I decided to treat myself and go with the most premium, deluxe BJJ belt brand I could find — so I went with the Eosin Panther Deluxe Brown Belt.

In this review, I’ll share my experience with the Eosin Panther BJJ Belt — and whether it’s worth it for grapplers who want to treat themselves for their next belt promotion. I’ll also compare it directly to the other belts I’ve worn (Mikado, Gold BJJ) plus an Elite BJJ belt I picked up specifically to show you the quality difference in photos.

Disclosure: Eosin Panther sent me this brown belt in exchange for an honest review. They’ve also given me a 10% discount code — TSAVO10 — that saves you 10% on any belt if you decide to order one. The opinions and testing protocol below are mine. I bought the other belts in this review with my own money.

After testing several other BJJ belts, I can confidently say the best BJJ belt is the Eosin Panther BJJ Deluxe Belt. It looks and feels amazing, has all the customization options you’d ever need, and makes you feel proud of your belt level.

How I Tested These BJJ Belts

I evaluated each belt on four criteria:

  1. Does it feel good to wear? Am I proud of it? This is subjective but it matters. A belt you don’t enjoy wearing is a belt you’ll replace.
  2. Does it get positive comments from training partners? A reliable test for quality. Brown and black belts at my gym notice the difference.
  3. Does it stay tied and keep my gi together? A loose belt is a constant distraction during rolls. The width, stiffness, and weave all factor in.
  4. Does it look better or worse as time goes on? A premium belt should age gracefully. It should soften and develop character instead of falling apart.

For the Eosin Panther specifically, I followed their care recommendations after a quick break-in shortcut: I washed it cold once, then put it in the dryer with other clothes for about 2 hours. That gave me 2-3 inches of intentional shrinkage to dial in the fit.

After that, I switched to their recommended protocol — cold wash, hang dry — for ongoing care. According to their FAQ, if you wash hot and tumble dry, you can expect 6-8 inches of shrinkage over time, which is too much for most people.

I ordered my Eosin Panther on April 3, 2026, and it arrived May 7, 2026. I’ve been wearing it for 5 weeks of consistent training, 2x per week. Enough mat time to see how it holds up to grips, breaks in, and washes.

Who Should Invest In An Eosin Panther BJJ Belt?

So, if you’re a BJJ hobbyist who just received a new belt or you’re in line for a promotion…what makes the Eosin Panther the right choice for you?

In this section, I’ll break down 3 reasons to get an Eosin Panther belt and 3 reasons you’d want to consider other options.

It’s for you if…

1. Your belt is an important symbol

If your belt color is important to you — and you want to celebrate getting to the next level — then investing in an Eosin Panther makes sense.

For many BJJ practitioners, the belt carries symbolic weight. A promotion is a sign that you’ve leveled up, and the belt is a symbol of your progression. You don’t want something cheap to mark that occasion.

My BJJ belts from white to brown: white and blue are Mikado, purple is Gold BJJ, and brown is Eosin Panther

That’s why I was interested in the Eosin Panther. I’ve been training for 7+ years, and it wasn’t obvious to me that I’d ever make it to brown belt. For me, it’s a big accomplishment, and I wanted to treat myself to something nice for achieving this new rank.

2. You want to customize every part of your belt

Eosin Panther belts are beautiful and well-made. They feel luxurious compared to other brands.

I decided NOT to customize my brown belt with embroidery or a different colored stripe bar — I’m saving that for when I get my black belt.

But if you want a belt where you can fully customize the size, weight, embroidery, material, length, stripe bar, and more, then the Eosin Panther is the perfect BJJ belt brand for you.

Anything you can think of for the belt, you can customize.

3. You like your BJJ gear made in America

Just like the Origin gi, Eosin Panther belts are made — by hand — in America. Most other belt brands are made in Pakistan or China, like most BJJ gis and rash guards.

For my American friends who like their gear made in their home country, you’ll feel right at home with Eosin Panther. Buy from them and you’re supporting a small, family-owned brand on home soil.

Even though I’m Canadian (half American), it felt good to support a company offering this level of craftsmanship in North America.

It’s NOT for you if…

1. Your belt is just a piece of fabric to you

If your belt doesn’t carry symbolic weight — and it’s just a way to tie your gi together — then investing in an Eosin Panther makes less sense.

You don’t care about the symbolism, so there’s no need to pay extra for a premium belt. You’ll be happier sticking with the belt your professor gave you, or investing in a mid-tier belt like the Gold BJJ Heavyweight belt.

2. It’s out of your budget

The Standard color belt from Eosin Panther — their most inexpensive option — runs about $54.95.

That’s roughly 5x as much as an Elite BJJ belt from Amazon and 2x as much as a belt from Gold BJJ or Fuji. And if you want the Deluxe with customization, you’re looking at $75-$120+.

Eosin Panther belts are top of the line. If shelling out $90+ for a BJJ belt makes you cringe, then you’re better off grabbing a cheaper belt and putting the money towards other gear or your monthly BJJ membership.

3. You hate waiting

I ordered my Eosin Panther on April 3 and received it on May 7. That’s roughly 4 weeks from order to doorstep — they make each belt by hand after you order, then ship it.

That’s the downside of a premium handmade belt: you have to wait. Although the suspense was killing me, finally getting the belt and wearing it to break it in was worth the wait. I expect to wear this belt for at least 2 years, so waiting a few weeks for it was no big deal for me.

But if you’re an impatient person who likes overnight Amazon shipping, the Eosin Panther wait time will annoy you. They do offer a $25 rush option that ships within 2 weeks if you need it faster.

(The owner said that my belt was slower to ship since I ordered it during their busy season. So, depending on when you order, your belt could ship more quickly)

The difference between the Standard and Deluxe is threefold:

  1. The deluxe belt’s fabric is higher quality. It’s made with brushed cotton.
  2. The deluxe belt has two layers webbing inside. The standard only has one.
  3. The deluxe stitching is tighter and has more rows:  12 compared to the standard’s 10.

For me personally, these features make the deluxe belt worth the extra $20. Plus it has a richer, deeper looking color.

Construction Details: What Makes The Best BJJ Belt

So, what makes the construction of the Eosin Panther BJJ Belt worth the investment? The quality.

Take one of the cheaper belts like the Elite BJJ Belt (which I picked up specifically for this comparison). It’s made of 65% polyester and 35% cotton. That gives it a cheaper, rougher feel — and you can see it in the photos.

Eosin Panther, on the other hand, are handmade with 100% cotton. They use the highest-quality material they can find, and each belt is tailor-made by a craftsman with decades of experience.

Their Soft belt option has a more relaxed, flexible feel — the belt hangs naturally instead of feeling hard and rigid out of the box. My brown belt is the Deluxe, which has more body but still ties cleanly.

Mikado belts (which I’ve also worn) sit in the middle. They use a 40% cotton / 60% polyester blend with 7-9 rows of lock-stitching — solid construction for $15. The high polyester percentage means they resist shrinking and hold their color over years of heavy use, but they don’t have the same hand-feel or aging character as a 100% cotton belt like the Eosin Panther. For $15, you get a belt that won’t fall apart. For $75+, you get one you’ll actually want to wear for years.

You can really see the difference in craftsmanship when you compare the Eosin Panther to a lower-tier belt:

Notice the color depth, the stitching uniformity, and how the materials age. The Eosin Panther color looks better, the stitching is cleaner and more uniform, and the belt ages gracefully instead of looking worn out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Eosin Panther belts IBJJF approved?

Yes. Eosin Panther belts meet IBJJF specifications for material, color, and the rank bar / sleeve requirements. You can compete in any IBJJF event with one.

How long does an Eosin Panther belt take to arrive?

In my case, 4 weeks from order to delivery in Canada. Eosin Panther makes each belt by hand after you order, so production typically takes 2-4 weeks plus shipping. If you need it faster, they offer a $25 rush option that ships within 2 weeks.

Are Eosin Panther belts handmade?

Yes — every belt is handmade in the USA. That’s part of why they cost more than mass-produced belts from Pakistan or China.

Do Eosin Panther belts shrink?

A bit, yes. If you wash cold and hang dry as recommended, you can expect 2-3 inches of shrinkage over the lifetime of the belt. If you wash hot and tumble dry, they say 6-8 inches — which is more than most people want. I deliberately shrunk mine 2-3 inches in the dryer for an initial fit, then switched to cold wash / hang dry going forward.

What’s the difference between the Standard and Deluxe Eosin Panther belt?

Color depth. The Deluxe uses a darker, richer color that holds better over time. The construction is similar; the Deluxe just looks more premium. For $20 more, I think it’s worth it. Especially if you’re buying the belt for a milestone promotion.

Is the Eosin Panther worth the price?

If your belt is a symbol of your journey in BJJ, yes. If it’s just fabric to hold your gi closed, no. Grab a $15 Elite BJJ belt from Amazon and put the savings into seminars or mat fees.

Takeaway: Is Eosin Panther The Best BJJ Belt?

If you want to treat yourself to the highest-quality BJJ belt money can buy, I couldn’t recommend Eosin Panther enough.

I upgraded for my brown belt and went with Eosin Panther, and I couldn’t be happier. My brown belt fills me with a sense of pride, looks amazing with my grey gi, and ties cleanly every class.
