How Should A Gi Fit? Sizing Guide
Here's how your gi jacket and gi pants should fit for an optimal training and competition experience.
Gi Jacket

Your gi jacket should fit like the image of me above in the Fuji All Around Gi.
Pay particular attention to the gi sleeves: they come down to my wrists. For gi jackets that are too big, they extend far down the wrist. And for gi jackets that are too small, they don't reach the wrist.
Sleeve measurements are critical for BJJ competitions like the ones held by IBJJF:
"The sleeves should come to no more than 2 cm from the athlete’s wrist when the arm is extended straight parallel to the ground."
Also, pay particular attention to the length of the gi. The gi jacket should reach your thighs, but not extend past them.
Gi Pants

Your gi pants should git like the image of me above in the Origin Pro BJJ Pants.
Pay particular attention to the ankle — you don't want your gi pants to be so long that they reach the floor.
(NOTE: Origin Pro BJJ Pants are slimmer than traditional gi pants. So if your gi pants are a bit baggy, that's fine.)
Nor do you want your gi pants to be so short that they are more than 2cm above your ankle bone. If you want to compete in the IBJJF, your gi pants cannot go 2cm above your ankle.

Make sure to read reviews for the gi you're interested in. People will tell you if the gi runs small, large, or just right.
As long as you follow the gi size chart and calculator in this article — or the gi size chart for your BJJ brand of choice — you shouldn't worry too much about sizing.
